One Fair Wage: Fee-Based Food Safety Course

One Fair Wage (OFW) is a national organization of nearly 300,000 service workers, over 2,000 restaurant employers, and dozens of organizations nationwide, all working together to end all subminimum wages in the United States and improve wages and working conditions in the service sector. OFW designed an online food handling certification course to fill a gap in their industry and generate additional revenue.

OFW is using a grant from Progressive Multiplier to promote the fee-based Just. Safe Food Worker and Food Safety Training Program provides food service workers with the core education needed for success and independent restaurant owners with the training to keep customers and workers safe while increasing mobility for staff. In the COVID-19 era, this program is key for all those in the food service industry.

OFW will target 500,000 individuals through social media, their networks, and search engine optimization, testing language for ads and emails. Leads will be directed to the website to register for the training; once the program is completed, all trainees will be offered an opportunity to join the Food Service Worker Co-op ownership.

One Fair Wage expects to generate $175,000 in revenue from this certification program.

This project is in progress; final results will be shared in a case study later.

One Fair Wage (OFW) is a national organization of nearly 300,000 service workers, over 2000 restaurant employers, and dozens of organizations nationwide, all working together to end all subminimum wages in the United States and improve wages and working conditions in the service sector in particular. One Fair Wage policy would require all employers to pay the full minimum wage with fair, non-discriminatory tips on top, thus lifting millions of tipped and subminimum wage workers nationally out of poverty.
