The Semilla Project
Acquiring Land To Diversify Revenue
The Semilla Project is on a mission to equip BIPOC communities with the tools to lead on climate justice and racial equity. Known for their hands-on approach and commitment to real-world solutions, they're taking their work to new heights with a project that ties together agriculture and community-building.
Here's the plan
They've set their sights on a piece of land that will serve dual purposes. First, a designated piece of the land will be used for their agricultural initiatives and rented back to the c3 nonprofit arm to support their work.
The other purpose of the land will become an outdoor retreat center where the community can come together, reconnect with nature, and engage with the Semilla mission in new ways. It's all part of their strategy to bring in more unrestricted revenue and expand their reach.
To achieve this
The Semilla Project will need to create an LLC. So far, this has included working with financial managers to clean up their books and hire an investment consultant, positioning themselves to approach banks confidently. To date, they have raised $500,000 and are in talks to secure forgivable loans to fund the project further.
The Semilla Project knows this is a big leap, but they're ready to grow. By acquiring land through an LLC, they are blending innovative financial strategies with their core mission - literally planting the seeds that will sustain them for years to come.
This initiative is made possible through a partnership with the Schmidt Foundation's N2 11th Hour Project.
